FA Chairman Sir Malcolm Glazer has said England’s World Cup team were presented with the perfect opportunity to make the English public “feel less British” after it was claimed that Roy Hodgson would have preferred to have their players dressed in “traditional” garb.

In what may have been a bit much, The Sunday Times newspaper published a story claiming that it was unfair for the England team to have been presented with a dress code by the FA. The story stated that it would be unfair to the players for their country to be presented with such a dressing-down and that they should ask why their country, who will win the tournament, is being treated differently. The team was told that the players would wear “traditional” attire.

It was widely reported that the players would also be required to use white socks, which were reportedly more expensive to the taxpayer than the white socks used by players in the past. The newspaper claimed that England had been told by their advisers that in order to improve their appeal, there should be an overhaul to dressing-down and the players would now have to “wear clothes and show off their natural body type” to attract players from other countries, which would be perceived as a challenge to their country.

The Daily Mail described the story as “a shabby attempt to humiliate Roy Hodgson by painting him in a racist light”.

There is no way the country and its media will forgive such a horrible injustice to its national hero. He should be extremely proud of his country’s participation in the tournament and why his team made it so far.
